YOUNG people in Maribyrnong are gearing up for a great gig.
The local FreeZa committee has hired international band Fireworks for its event on April 23.
The five-piece band from Detroit will rev up the Footscray audience with punk-pop as part of its Australian tour.
The band's debut album All I Have To Offer Is My Own Confusion has been described as being about "growing up and making the most of your circumstances". Sydney band Heroes for Hire will support.
Youth leadership and advisory committee representative Cr Sarah Carter said three local bands would also be selected to play.
"We are putting out the call to home-grown musicians interested in becoming part of the line-up," she said. "It's an exceptional opportunity for our own emerging musicians looking for this kind of exposure to start their own fan base."
She also encouraged residents aged 12-25 with an interest in music, entertainment and event management to join the FreeZa committee. Previous committee members have gained employment in the music industry.
