 Hopes and heels both high

Hopes and heels both high

ESSENDON-based charity the Warwick Foundation is kicking up its heels in a bid to break a world record.

The charity, which supports adults aged 18-40 with cancer, will attempt to break the world record at the Whitten Oval next month for the most number of people running in high heels. The current record is held by Italy by 279 people, but the charity will try to smash the mark by aiming for 400.

The foundation's founder, Essendon resident Samantha Lehmann, said the idea evolved from the charity's slogan 'In My Shoes'. The foundation was established in 2008 in memory of Samantha's brother, who lost his battle with cancer in 2005 at age 35.

She said the support available to young adults facing cancer was less than that for children or the elderly and there were still gaps in the system that needed addressing.

The foundation aims to raise awareness of cancer among young adults to ensure they are diagnosed and treated promptly.
