ALTONA SES volunteers were inundated with call for help from Hobsons Bay residents hit by the weekend storms.
Deputy controller Peter Tester said most of the calls related to water leaking through property roofs and ceilings.
"About 20 of our volunteers were called in to to assist. The worst incidents in Hobsons Bay were flooded railway underpasses at Newport and Spotswood.
"Crews also attended calls relating to minor roof damage and leaking roofs in Wren Street, Altona; Box Court, Altona North; Hall Street, Altona Meadows; Catherine Road, Seabrook; and McGuire Crescent, Williamstown.
"Given the enormity of the storm, it was fortunate there was no significant damage to houses in Hobsons Bay."
Altona SES crews also provided help and attended to calls from residents in Footscray, North Melbourne and Essendon.
Most calls in those areas were for leaking roofs following three days of torrential rain, Mr Tester said.
"The minimal damage caused to houses can be partially attributed to residents taking heed of expert advice by checking that roof gutters and drains were clear of debris.
"Doing this saved many homes over the weekend from the effects of flash flooding."
