LANDSCAPING around the Whitten Oval has begun despite $600,000 in funding for the project still in doubt.
In 2006, Maribyrnong Council committed $1million over the next three financial years on landscaping works around the oval.
Last April, the council paid the club $400,000, but the remaining $600,000 is outstanding.
By the time of publication, the council was last night considering whether or not it would release the remaining money.
Bulldogs chief executive Campbell Rose declined to comment on the issue.
The council also refused to answer questions before yesterday's council meeting.
But in a report to be presented to the council, it was revealed that the club took over responsibility for landscaping from the council so it would be well integrated with the site.
The report states the club spent $907,000 and requested the council release its money "to assist with the club's cash flow commitments for the [oval] redevelopment".
Last year, the Bulldogs estimated it would cost another $1.12million to finish landscaping, which would include a walking track around the oval linking with Gordon and Barkly streets.
