Rams mix it up, Wolves need to show fight

03 Mar, 2010 07:58 AM
IT was a mixed week on the diamond for the Newport Rams in Baseball Victoria's state league division one.

The Rams were involved in a thrilling 2-2 draw with the Doncaster Dragons at Melbourne Ball Park in Altona in the mid-week clash and returned to the same venue on Saturday to be toppled 8-3 by the Blackburn Orioles.

The finals-less Rams have a date with the Bonbeach Bluejays at the MBP tomorrow night from 8.50 before their final home game of the summer against the Malvern Braves at KC White Reserve in Williamstown on Sunday at 3.30pm.

Meanwhile, the Williamstown Wolves left the door ajar for St Kilda to reach the finals in a 9-7 loss at Greenwich Reserve on Sunday.

The fourth-placed Wolves are one win ahead of the Saints, but have played one extra game.

The Wolves face a must-win trip to third-placed Melbourne on Sunday.

Winless Footscray's lean trot continued with a 9-1 loss away to Springvale.
