SLAVE Bozinovski sits back and reflects fondly on Altona Magic's back-to-back glories in the Victorian Premier League.
"It's unbelievable," he said as he recalls the grand final wins over the Melbourne Knights in 2008 and the Dandenong Thunder in September.
"Two grand final wins and were never the favourites.
"It was an unbelievable feeling."
The Magic will take aim at a three-peat this season.
They will not rest until they have equalled the feats of the great Magic teams of the mid-1990s, which achieved three titles in succession from 1995-97.
They will have to do it without many of the stars who featured in the last two triumphs, having left at the end of Milissa Fischer-Massa's reign as club president.
"At Altona they expect a lot and don't accept mediocrity," the 29-year-old said.
"We haven't done anything until we've won three in a row and that's what we want to do.
"Once you get into the finals anything can happen and that's our goal."
Bozinovski was almost a new recruit for the Magic last season.
Brought down in the prime of his career with seven operations in three years, he finally managed to put together 12 months of football without time in the medical room.
"It destroyed my mid-20s," he said. "Now I'm playing week in, week out it's a massive relief.
"I don't like to say I've got full confidence in my body, but so far so good."
Bozinovski will play in bigger role in the heart of the defence.
No longer does he have the experienced Con Anthopoulos or Steve Laurie either side of him as cover.
A lot more work will be on the shoulders of youngster Alex Koltovski, two-time grand final substitute Pece Cergovski and former A-League player and recruit Sime Kovacevic.
There is still an air of confidence at Paisley Park Reserve in spite of losing a number of key premiership players.
"We showed a lot in round one against one of the top sides in South Melbourne - we were just unlucky to cop a late goal," Bozinovski said.
"We don't have a lot of depth this year but the new coach [Dragan Blazevski] is playing a better brand of football."
The Magic faces the Bentleigh Greens at the Kingston Heath Soccer Complex in Cheltenham on Friday. Kick-off is 8.30pm.
