A NEW-look VU-Western Lightning will take to the court in the opening round of the Victorian Netball League's Holden Cruze Cup against the North East Blaze tonight.
Having finished just outside the finals on percentage, the side has undergone numerous changes in the off-season.
"It will be a very different side from last year when we take the court," coach Joy Grubb says.
"We have had players leave and others retire, so not everything is going to happen quickly.
"I'm very excited to get back into it and see how we go."
Adding to the confusion of having new members in the squad, they have had to battle injuries throughout the preseason.
"We have had only eight players to play during the preseason," Grubb said.
"While it has meant we haven't been able to do anything that we would have liked, it means players have been getting more court time.
"Noone likes sitting on the bench, so it has been good for everyone getting more court time."
"Four of our five new players are defenders, so it has taken them a while to gel together, "Grubb said.
"We still have Melbourne Vixens player Brooke Thompson to come back from injury as well to add to our defence."
Grubb and new skipper Dani Stewart have again set their sights on finals as they look for some of the younger players to step up.
